I was cataloguing my e-books this weekend with Bookpedia (which I mentioned before) and I realized that I had quite a few e-books. Now, I’m not talking about the self-published kinds of e-books, but e-book versions of books you can buy in bricks and mortar stores put out by recognized publishers.
I checked to make sure that the downloads were still available (last week’s downloads were time-limited) and decided to do a little series every Monday, pointing you to a new free book to download that you might want to check out. These are legal downloads directly from the publisher’s or author’s site (I’ll keep the series going as long as possible, I can do at least a month at the moment).
This week it’s free books from Sherrilyn Kenyon and Karl Schroeder. Both authors have new releases out on August 5th and are releasing an older book as a free download to let readers sample their writing.
Sherrilyn Kenyon’s free download is Seize the Night. Fill out the e-mail form on her site and they’ll send you a link to download the book (and sign you up for her publisher’s newsletter). This e-book is only available until July 3rd.
Karl Schroeder’s free download is Ventus and is available for download from his home page. I read Schroeder’s serialized novel Queen of Candesce last year in Analog (March-June 2007) before I fell hopelessly behind in my reading and it was quite good (it’s been a while since I’ve read it or I would be more effusive). Schroeder is also Canadian (I’m always glad to find homegrown writers to read).
Check back next Monday for more leads on free book downloads.
