Help get books to school kids through DonorsChoose.org

If you haven’t heard of it before, DonorsChoose.org is a site that takes proposals from US teachers asking for money to fund various things needed for their classrooms that aren’t in their budgets. The projects are listed on DonorsChoose.org and donors choose (hence the name) which project to give money to (as little as a couple dollars, whatever you can afford or would like to give). You’d be surprised by how little the teachers are asking for and how big of a difference it makes.

Every year, DonorsChoose.org runs a Bloggers Challenge where bloggers ask their readership to donate and compete to see who gets the highest total. I don’t have the readership to compete, so I’m donating through TomatoNation.com (an excellent blog, if you’ve never been there).

On top of the fuzzy do-good feeling you get from donating, if you donate through the TomatoNation link and follow the instructions, Sars of TomatoNation.com will enter you in her prize pool. This lady has connections people, so there’s nifty stuff going out and more coming. Also, if the TomatoNation team reaches $100 000, you will see Sars of TomatoNation dress up as a human-size tomato and take the train to DC to see the sights. There will be filming. Last year there was a dancing tomato in Rockefeller Plaza.

The challenge runs the month of October and since October 1st, TomatoNation.com readers have raised $35 000. In five days. The month-long goal is $100 000. Can you help a tomato out?
