Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips (Giveaway!)

Release December 2008 (Bay Back Books) * 320 pages * ISBN 13: 9780316067638

Gods Behaving Badly by Marie PhillipsThanks to Hachette Book Group, I have another title to give away: Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips. I haven’t had a chance to read this one, but I have a copy on its way to me and you can enter to win your copy here.

Here is Hachette’s description of the book:

Being a Greek god is not all it once was. Yes, the twelve gods of Olympus are alive and well in the twenty-first century, but they are crammed together in a London townhouse-and none too happy about it. And they’ve had to get day jobs: Artemis as a dog-walker, Apollo as a TV psychic, Aphrodite as a phone sex operator, Dionysus as a DJ. Even more disturbingly, their powers are waning, and even turning mortals into trees-a favorite pastime of Apollo’s-is sapping their vital reserves of strength.

Soon, what begins as a minor squabble between Aphrodite and Apollo escalates into an epic battle of wills. Two perplexed humans, Alice and Neil, who are caught in the crossfire, must fear not only for their own lives, but for the survival of humankind. Nothing less than a true act of heroism is needed-but can these two decidedly ordinary people replicate the feats of the mythical heroes and save the world?

Interested?

You can read Chapter 1 on Hachette’s site.

A romantic comedy featuring mythological beings in the modern world? The possibilities of how this could go intrigue me. I’d heard about this book and thought it would be a fun read, something to curl up with and forget the tediums of the real world for a bit. I enjoy good British comedy and this seems to be right on track for that. Thanks for the giveaway — and for hosting the Giveaway Carnival for all of us readers out here.

I think the basis of my desire to read this is because I have always had a fascination with mythology. I loved learning the greek and roman stories and I even took classes again in college. My kids are carrying on the love too. My daughter has already taken classes in college and my son just informed me that he scheduled for next semester with a class in mythology. It’s funny that this book giveaway came up at the same time because now I know there would be at least 3 people in this house who’d be reading it!

For 1 entry, please accept my name into the contest. For another 2 entries… I’d love to read this book because it seems like a modern and hilariously comical take on likely the most dysfunctional and twisted family EVER (kidnappings, drug and drug addicts, children born of incest, etc. etc.) and only Gods could get away with it… LOL! I would love to read this as I have always had a passion for Greek mythology. I had to replace my original book of Greek myths because I wore it out (and that was just high school). In college, comparative studies classes and lit classes helped me further study these beloved stories. This book has an interesting take on the characters and a very new and different point of view
