New Year, New You Hachette giveaway!

The New Year is here for some of us (and for others it’s just around the corner) so now is a good time for some reflection and a new start or two. I’ve started the Health & Fitness Read It, Live It, Blog It Challenge to get myself to apply to my life what I read in books (those posts are on Fridays and anyone is free to join). But what if *gasp* you don’t have a book to work from? Never fear, Hachette has put together a box of eight books to get you started and is letting me play book fairy to five people living in the US or Canada (next month I have a worldwide giveaway for the rest of you).

The books Hachette is giving away are listed below. You can click on the title to go check out the book on Hachette’s site. Scroll down past the books to see all the fine print about entering the giveaway (sorry, gotta have it).

New Year, New You Book Pack

Love in 90 Days by Diana Kirschner
Walking in Your Own Shoes by Robert Anthony Schuller
The Power of Who by Bob Beaudine
God is My Coach by Larry Julian
Do-It-Yourself Hedge Funds by Wayne Weddington
8 Steps to Create The Life You Want by Creflo Dollar
Going Gray by Anne Kreamer
This is the Year You Write Your Novel by Walter Mosley

That’ll keep you busy! I’ll be reviewing The Power of Who soon (tomorrow I hope, but I’ve learned not to make promises like that).

Scroll down, down, down for how to enter. :-)

Giveaway Details

Eligibility

  1. Open to residents of the United States and Canada. Sorry, you must have a street address (no P.O. boxes) to enter. Shipping courtesy of Hachette Book Group. I do have a worldwide giveaway coming up in February for this book for those who aren’t eligible for this one.
  2. You must be contactable. If I can’t reach you, you can’t win. As long as you provide a valid e-mail in the e-mail field when you fill out the comment form, you’re okay.

The Book

The winners will each receive an 8-book pack of the books listed above courtesy of Hachette.

How to Enter

There are a number of ways to enter, depending on how many entries you want. The list only looks long. You can do only #1 and be done. The extra ways to enter just increase your chances of winning (pick any or none of them or come back later and do more of them):

  1. Post a comment on this post saying that you want to be entered (1 entry). Any comment you make on this thread that makes it clear you’re entering the giveaway qualifies, so no need to make a separate comment just to collect this entry if you are doing any of the others). If you want more entries, keep reading. If one’s enough for you, thanks for coming by and don’t forget to check out the other freebies on the site or browse the reviews.
  2. Help me keep in touch:
    • Subscribe to my RSS feed in a reader OR by e-mail (no need to do both) and tell me in your comment (2 entries). If you are already a subscriber let me know and I’ll give you the entries too.
    • Follow me on Twitter (1 entry). If you already follow me on Twitter, remind me when you post and I’ll give you the entries too.
  3. Help me publicize this giveaway:
    • Blog about this giveaway and link back here OR link to this giveaway on your blog sidebar (3 entries).
  4. For a few more entries, tell me about New Year’s resolutions:
    • Do you make New Year’s resolutions? (Yes/No –1 entry)
    • Why do you or don’t you make resolutions? (1 entry)
    • What are your goals (resolutions or not) for 2009? (1 entry for each goal up to a maximum of 3 entries)

PLEASE NOTE: IF you can get all your entries in on one comment it would be appreciated. I don’t mind if you come back later or another day to add more, but please don’t make a separate comment for each entry unless you really need to (some blogs ask you to post separately for each entry, but I don’t!).

Deadlines

This giveaway has 5 prize packs of 8 books each so there are several closing dates (ALL entries count for ALL draws):

On January 20, 2009 I will draw up to 2 winners based on the number of unique entries on January 19 at 9:59 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. If there are at least 15 unique entries I’ll draw one winner/at least 30 unique entries I’ll draw two winners.

On January 27, 2009 I will draw up to 2 winners (or more if the weren’t enough unique entries the previous week) based on the number of unique entries on January 26, 2009 at 9:59 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. If there are at least 45 unique entries by this time I’ll draw one more winner/if there at least 60 unique entries by this time I’ll draw two winners.

On January 31, 2009 I will award the last pack of books if there is a minimum of 100 entries at that point (not enough entries, then no giveaway so don’t forget to tell others to come on over and enter!).

The winners will be announced and e-mailed the day after the drawings (unless I’m swamped, but I’ll try not to be). If the winners don’t reply to the e-mail notification within 72 hours, new winners will be drawn.

    Yes, I do make resolutions.
Because the new year is a time to reflect and redirect and think about priorities.

Resolution #1 – Lose at least 12 pounds, one per month. I really should lose all 20 I gained back after quitting WW, but one a month sounds like a goal.
Resolution #2 – Get my office cleaned out and organized so I am not so easily distracted. Oh, and my closets. Give the good clothes to someone who can use and love them.
Resolution #3 – Write a book. I am going to start on February 9th and write at least 3 pages a day on weekdays. I should have a book by summer. Yippee! I could read that Walter Mosley book to get me going….

Thanks for the contest. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions because I have found that they are no easier to keep than any other resolution. I am trying to take my own bags when I shop this year and to eat better though.

    Thank you!

Hey there, I’d like to entered for this – and I already have you subscribed in my Google Reader. As for your questions.. I make resolutions, though more as a tradition than anything else. I’d like to learn to cook new meals; learn to crochet again, and make a blanket or something; be more patient with my mother, who drives me absolutely crazy at times. Cooking would be a big plus overall though, lol.

I used to make resolutions. I also realized they were too broad and never came to fruition. So now I try to make goals and hopefully something doable – organize my books, read more books, spend less time on the computer :)

I don’t make “resolutions” anymor, because I found them tedious

That being said, however, I most certainly do set goals for myself throughout the year.

This year is no exception, so, I am:
    (1) living a much healthier lifestyle, (2) making peace with some old demons, and, (3) becoming more organized.

I signed up for the newsletter.

    Thanks!

I used to make resolutions all the time.
I felt there was a need or needs to change.
Now I set goals, but try to be more realistic and break them up into more achievable parts. This year I am sorting through my belongings with the goal of paring down in order to free up more space in my house to be able to avail my time and house space to others – and to feel the Lord’s spirit. I will sell the excess things to earn some much needed cash too.
I also want to communicate by letter with my family members on a more regular basis.
I also want to be more diligent about studying the scriptures and getting closer to God.
    Thank you.

I did not make any resolutions to avoid resolution guilt but I did make “plans” that I have been working on.
    1. To eat a healthier diet
    2. To finish off every book on my “unread” shelves
    3. To clean out all unnecessary junk in the house
    4. To load all CDs onto my iPod
That’s been the majority of it. So far so good!

I’d love to win and read these books – I love reading so much. Thank you for the opportunity.

I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions because I’ve never been able to succeed at them. It seems the more I concentrate on trying, the more I fail.

In 2009, I want to better control my finances and continue to lose weight no matter how slow (definitely not gain any back).

I usually do not make New Year’s resolutions because I always set unattainable goals. It doesn’t keep me from wishing that a cure could be found for systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I am a teacher who really wants to keep teaching but may have to face retirement because of the advancement of these auto immune diseases.
