Interesting links for November 19, 2009
Links from my e-mail inbox and Twitterstream:
#1: Famous authors Narrate the Funny Pages over at McSweeney’s. Peanuts is read by Jane Austen, Dilbert by Charles Dickens, etc. Would be better if we could see the comic strips along side the narration, but otherwise done well.
#2: Harlequin is getting into the self-publishing business, which has a few issues and appears to have gotten them kicked out of the Romance Writers of America. Publishers appear to want their cake and all the crumbs. Harlequin will refer rejected authors to their self-publishing arm and then charge the equivalent of several body parts for services that could be obtained for much, much less.
Late addition: A very good dissection on what is wrong with Harlequin’s public relations spin on their self-publishing arm.
